How to run an architecture practice WordPress site

If your architecture practice runs its website on WordPress, you’ve made a solid choice. It’s flexible enough to showcase your portfolio beautifully while giving you full control over your content and SEO.

The key with an architecture site is letting your work do the talking without letting the site itself get in the way.

Make your portfolio the centrepiece

Your projects are your biggest selling point, so they need to be front and centre. Use high quality images, give each project its own page, and include enough context to tell the story of each build. A gallery dumped onto a single page with no descriptions is a missed opportunity.

Choose a theme that stays out of the way

It’s tempting to go for something flashy, but the best architecture websites use clean, minimal themes that let the photography shine. Avoid anything with heavy animations or complex layouts that distract from the work itself.

Keep the site fast

Architecture sites tend to be image heavy, which can kill your load times if you’re not careful. Compress every image before uploading, use lazy loading so images only load as visitors scroll to them, and run a caching plugin. A beautiful site that takes eight seconds to load won’t impress anyone.

Make your services and process clear

Not everyone visiting your site will understand what working with an architect involves. A clear page explaining your services, your process from initial consultation through to completion, and what kind of projects you take on will help potential clients feel confident about getting in touch.

Keep WordPress maintained

Updates, backups, and security plugins. It’s not glamorous, but a hacked or broken site reflects badly on a practice that trades on attention to detail. Set a regular schedule and stick to it.

Pollinate Marketing works with architecture practices to build websites that look as good as the buildings they feature. If your WordPress site needs some attention, we’d love to hear from you.
