Why your Wigan business isn’t ranking on Google

Wigan has a proud business community, but too many local businesses are virtually invisible online. If people in Wigan can’t find you on Google, they will find someone else. And in most cases, the reasons you aren’t ranking are fixable once you know what they are.

Your website was never optimised

Having a website is not the same as having an optimised website. Many Wigan businesses launched a site, put their contact details and service list on it, and left it at that. Without proper title tags, meta descriptions, heading structures, and keyword targeted content, Google has no basis for ranking your pages for relevant searches.

Speed and user experience

If your website takes too long to load or is awkward to navigate on a phone, Google penalises you in two ways. First, directly through its page experience ranking signals. Second, indirectly through poor user behaviour. People who arrive on a slow or confusing site leave immediately, and Google notices that.

You haven’t built any authority

Google needs evidence that your business is credible. That evidence comes partly from your site’s content and partly from external signals: links from other websites, mentions in directories, reviews, and citations. A Wigan business with zero external references looks invisible to Google, regardless of how good its services are.

No fresh content

A website that hasn’t been updated in twelve months tells Google that nothing new is happening. Regular content updates, whether that is blog posts, new service pages, or case studies, signal that your business is active and that your website is worth revisiting and reranking.

At Pollinate Marketing, we work with Wigan businesses to identify exactly what is stopping them from ranking and put together a clear plan to fix it. Everything is based on data, not assumptions. Get in touch today.
